In this industry, Pre-production you have quite a lot of power to influence what and who works in the actual production later down the line and how they are portrayed. It’s very common to face the problem of wanting to portray and showcase someone else's culture and not being sure how to do it. And unfortunately they aren't always done right which leads to very bad depictions of a culture and then this becomes the only exposure some people have had with it and will view from a bad perspective onwards. Likewise someone part of that culture is also affected by it, maybe making them feel shame about themselves and anger because they hoped for something good and didn't get it. It's very important to hire people from a diverse background to stop this but also on a creative side they can bring unique and new interesting ways of telling a story. Consisting talking and getting feedback on what's being made and being written. Environmental wise I don't think they really have to worry about much since things are increasingly being done digitally so paper and art materials aren't being wasted and discarded. But in terms of what there are drawings there could be, is the artist bringing attention to important topics. Are thinking about how their designs could be translated into other mediums and if they can be made efficiently.Understanding all of this will not only help the illustrator make better and more interesting stories for the an audience to consume but inform and help them make better decisions in other aspects of their working process.
